Glenmorangie Lasanta: sipper for everyday use
The Glenmorangie Distillery is one of the big names in UK single malt whisky sales. In recent times, they upgraded their labels to a much more visible display of the name: GLEN MO RAN GIE. Well, if it gets the job done, I won’t object, even though I am much more old-fashioned. I love the whisky labels of old, that tell stories of the Sixteen Men of Tain or the tallest stills in Highland Scotland. Stuff like that works better for me than this or that legend about a sea snake swimming around Islay or Orkney or Skye. Having that said, this bottle just looks perfect. Simplicity is a joy.

Glenmorangie Lasanta, 12 years old, bottled at 43 % abv
First things first: The Lasanta is made up from bourbon and sherry casks. Apparently, Glenmorangie does editions now, and the one in our glass is edition number 5.
Upon Sipping: Not just a name, but an age statement too, and a decent abv for a core range bottling from one of the big players in Scotland. Thanks for that in advance. Very light and floral on first whiff, with soft candy, some vanilla and soap bars. Very light but very pleasant. The attack is very sweet, leaning more towards sugar than fruits, until you swallow and get a nice mix of apples and raspberry fruit tea. On the finish, a nice bitter note from the wood influence. The duration of it could have been longer, but that only means you want to take a sip quite quickly again. As they say, a moreish whisky! The balance is just perfect, one could only complain that this Glenmorangie Lasanta is a tad too sweet – and then I do not mean the taste. I miss a rough edge. A highland malt edge. With a drop of water we release more of the soap bar, but not in the vein of the soapy whisky blog we posted a little while ago! It is a smell of rose petals on the bed on Valentine’s Day, the sheets as fresh as a newborn lamb, all just waiting to be wildly swept upon to the best things you can do in bed. A dreamy whisky for a cool summer night with some saxophone in the background. Ah well, see, it still managed to make me lyrical.
Word to the Wise: Easy going sipper for everyday use, that will not ever bore you. You need a sweet tooth for this one. Thanks for the sample, Marchioness Emy.
Score: 83 points.
